Ocean Trip, Montreal to Halifax - Review of VIA Rail Canada, Canada, North America. Great experience that starts at the train station Montreal. We booked a sleeper cabin including meals so we could have access to the dome car. We arrived at the station and very nice man greeted us and took our cases to put in the luggage cart and labbled the small carry on bag so it would be in our cabin when we boarded. Great service cost $3. He advised us we had access to the VIP lounge so we went for a nosey. VIA Rail was forced to relocate the Ocean stop for the Quebec City region to Charny. VIA Rail Canada announced its intention to reduce frequency on the Ocean from 6 times per week to 3 times per week. Starting October. You had access all day untill train left at 6. Here you could get wifi, hot/cold drinks, magazines, newspapers. Nice to sit and more peaceful and quiet than the hustle and bustle. We went for walks and checked out the underground shopping which goes in all directions, hint take not of your bearings to get back. The train trip itself was lovely, we booked in for the early meal so we could be free to enjoy the dome car. Meals are very good, but they do run out of popular options so first sitting is best. Tables set with tablecloth's, service friendly and helpful. Dome car, note there is only ONE and five sleeper wagons all have access so at times it can be full, it is pure luck either way. We noticed alot of people didn't bother as you had to walk through the sleeper wagons, then a passenger wagon, then an empty wagon re only way old dome car can hook onto train, then you are in dome wagon. VIA Rail's long-haul train, the Ocean, is equipped with the same Wi-Fi available to passengers on the Quebec City - Windsor Corridor. You get a duvet and pillow. The top bunk has the airconditioning vent, which is very cold draught and can't be altered. We had the toilet, basin ensuite option, didn't bother with shower choice and used flannel and wet ones. The train stopped three times and had total power cuts, quite weird as lights out, no aircon etc, but then fixed and carried on. No explanations given. You will arrive late in Halifax, but not a problem as plenty taxis and public transport. Overall a lovely experience. This review is the subjective opinion of a Trip. Advisor member and not of Trip.
